MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Lake time for many. I’m going to grill some steak, do yard work, drink some beer and try to enjoy it.

Memorial Day Parade info.

Have a great weekend!

THIS WEEK… TOO MUCH SOMETIMES

First, the Texas shooting, which hits all the nerves. It makes me sick, sad, mad… all of it.

As I mentioned on ALT, several things need to be done. Let’s hope things happen.

The entertainment world lost Ray Liotta, whom I loved in one of my favorite films ever, Goodfellas.

Then, Alan White of Yes. I’m a drummer and as a kid went to many drum clinics. I met Alan White at those clinics. Great dude.

Finally, a very important member of Depeche Mode, Andy Fletcher. He was the backbone sound of the band in my opinion.

I will miss all three. Very talented. Be sure to check out all of their work when you can.

I LOVE A GREAT T-SHIRT

I’m a fan of Jack White and Third Man Records.

TWILIGHT ZONE DAY

May 11th is National Twilight Zone Day.

My life is the Twilight Zone. 100%!!

RANDOM THOUGHTS 5/10

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This is a huge deal to me. I’ve had anxiety from the time I was a kid. What comes easy for many people does not work that way for me. I’ve also battled depression off and on for my adult life. Sometimes very dark. I’m not someone that would ever hurt themselves, but I’ve had many very deep and dark moments. Add to this the fact that I have OCD. Many joke and say they have OCD, but I really DO have OCD. I’m not at Monk levels, but damn… I get stuck into some things. I’m not washing my hands over and over or checking doors constantly, but I’ve become very detailed about things in life, which can be a bonus, but also a drag at times. Positives/Negatives. I’m also someone who has an addictive personality and can be very impulsive. Reading this, you might think, what a mess! Anyway, I love life, but it’s a life where I may at times seem anti-social or quiet (I am shy…believe it or not). I let myself have fun on the radio. I do enjoy entertaining and talking with people. The point of all of this is… I do understand this stuff and it can be really hard. One step at a time. Life is an adventure through good and bad. Try to find your way.

AVATAR

This is the Avatar: The Way Of Water teaser trailer.

Avatar: The Way of Water is due 12/16.

RANDOM THOUGHTS 5/9

I hope Mother’s Day was wonderful for all mom’s everywhere. My mom has been battling dementia and I took her some flowers and she loved them. We talked for a while and she asked to speak to my dad again and he passed away several years ago. It’s hard to see a loved one going through this. Her spirits are always well though. She’s usually smiling and quite content, which does make me happy in that regard.

Father’s Day is next in June. There’s nothing bigger in my life than my kids. I try to be a decent dad and although my kids live in Florida, we talk all the time and I’m very involved in their lives. We see each other and visit whenever we can. I’d do ANYTHING for my children. They grow up so fast, Emily is 19 and Andrew is 16.

Free Comic Book Day took place over the weekend. There’s a really fun comic book shop in downtown Fort Wayne called R Cade Comics and Collectibles. It’s located in the old Firefighters Museum building. I believe they have a spot on State too.

I REALLY like the Arcade Fire album, WE. I caught them on SNL. Well done.

I give Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 4 out of 5 popcorns.

Happy Birthday to Billy Joel! Glass Houses was one of the my first records.

Happy Birthday to Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode. It’s interesting when you listen to the Depeche Mode catalog of songs and how they vary so much. It shows the growth over time and the up’s and down’s of the lives of those in the band. For Mr. Gahan, he went through hell for a while with a heroin addiction. I’m glad he got through that and is still here making great music. One of my favorite record label trinkets from a long time ago was a Depeche Mode incense burner.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON

HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon debuts 8/21 via HBO Max.

Be sure to check out the whole season!

I LOVE documentaries on anything and everything.

This one is especially interesting to me because it’s about the legendary George Carlin.

Here’s the poster and trailer. It debuts on HBO Max on 5/20.

Note: It’s George Carlin… so there’s some language and subject matter not for everyone.

My favorite (and oh so true) line from George Carlin:

“It’s a big club and you ain’t in it.”

THE OFFER

I’m looking forward to The Offer on Paramount +.

It’s a drama about the making of The Godather.

Debuts Thursday 4/28!

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS GET A HOLLYWOOD STAR

Congrats to Red Hot Chili Peppers on their Hollywood Star.

BRUCE WILLIS APPRECIATION POST

Bruce Willis is retiring. He’s made some great movies, a few good ones

and a couple of bad ones along the way. There are several that I really like a lot:

Die Hard series, Sixth Sense, Pulp Fiction, Armageddon, Fifth Element etc.

Bruce Willis was a part of that action triad with Arnold and Sly.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON

HBO Max’s House of the Dragon debuts 8/21.

I really like Disney+’s Moon Knight.

The Batman starring Robert Pattinson.

Lost City starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.

LISTEN

Cannon’s Fever Dream, which features Bad Dream.

READ

Leave The Gun, Take The Cannoli: The Epic Story of the Making of The Godfather is an excellent read.

Sex Pistols story is about to hit screens on FX and Hulu, May 31st.

It’s based on Steve Jones memoir, Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol.

TAYLOR TRIBUTE

Life is precious. You just never know. Always tell the people you care about that you love them.

It’s such a sad story from over the weekend about the passing of Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins.

As a drummer, I always looked at him as one of THE great drummers.

Here is a tribute to Taylor via the Drum Channel.

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF THE MOMENT

Wet Leg’s Wet Dream

I love all of Wet Leg’s songs and looking forward to their album in April. They’re just fun!

Red Hot Chili Peppers Black Summer

RHCP are icons in the ALT world and it’s nice to have John back in the fold.

Portugal. The Man’s What Me Worry?

I really dig this one. It gets stuck in your head.

The Black Keys Wild Child

This is a certified banger. I can’t help but think, this is Dan and Patrick saying, “alright, we’ll show you.”

ZACK ATTACK DEBUT

This is my first Zack Attack blog post and figured I’d begin with my journey into loving alternative music. I’m just a major music fan and have been since a toddler. I love many kinds of music. I’m a rock guy at heart. Alternative music has always been special for me. I’m always searching, hunting and seeking out great music all the time. I love punk, especially the Ramones. I’m a fan of Depeche Mode and The Cure. I dig Pixies and Sonic Youth. The Replacements are probably one of my favorites of all time. You gotta read Trouble Boys about them. Great read! I was in high school during those peak hair band/hard rock years (and yeah, I liked that too back then… yeah I’m old) and that wasn’t alternative, but played a part in my life. Hey, I loved Britny Fox AND New Order. Yeah, I was and still am kinda all over the place. I’ve always loved Motorhead, Metallica, Megadeth etc. Anyway, back to alternative…. I was so into a very early MTV show called The Cutting Edge. It was produced by the incredible record label, I.R.S. I soaked all of that up. There was also MTV’s 120 Minutes and later, ALT Nation. I loved all of that too. While in high school, I joined the Sub Pop Singles Club. My first single was the first one they did, which was Nirvana’s Love Buzz from Bleach. When I graduated high school and got my first full-time radio job, one of the parts of my job was putting together a show called On The Edge. Not to be confused with the radio station around here called the Edge. That’s different, this was before that. I was working for B-106, a Top 40 station, and we played all of these amazing and incredible artists and I put it all together and the show was called On The Edge. Not long after this show started, Nirvana released Smells Like Teen Spirit and BOOM, it changed the landscape. Everything alternative in the 90’s was special in some way to me. I loved the grunge thing and still do. I could talk forever about all of this, but to fast forward, here I am now… a major music fan. I love so much music. I love Cage The Elephant, The Black Keys, anything Jack White does. And let me be clear, there is so much great NEW music, along with some of the older stuff that a lot of us enjoy. I love Wet Leg, Momma, Girlfriends. There’s three right now that I love.

Music is my passion.

Movies are a passion.

Television and Streaming are a passion.

Radio is a passion and a huge part of my life.

I love anything and everything Fort Wayne… the people, the places, the things.

My kids rock! They’re my world.

All of this and more will be a part of Zack Attack!

Thank you for watching, listening and reading.
